Review of Bottle Rocket (1996) by Daniel F — 17 Aug 2012
Fascinating and emotionally satisfying.
Theirs a beautiful warmth the film has. The visual style is also something to be noted. Majority of the scenes are down right ingenious how the colors are composed and laying next to one another and what not. but I say again it never feels like your being beaten over the head with it, such as the work of Tim Burton where long stretches are purely for visualization.
The story of this movie is deceptively simple not in the manor of its actually complex but its simple in the idea of taking away everything that doesn't matter to the film and only having the things needed to convey the main idea.
I loved basically everything about this movie the dry bizarre and subtle humor. The flamboyant visual flair. Great acting that grounds the film making it fun and relatable. Not to mention Wes Anderson is a master of pacing scenes and makes them surprising.
If there was a little quibble I had with this movie it was the fact that the ending was slightly anticlimactic for me but I guess it was to be expected in the context and feel of the film in future viewing ill probably appreciate it a little more.
