A deeply affecting film about America searching for meaning in the middle of the 20th century.Tom Cruise is/was too often labeled as an action star, but he has tremendous talent (even if his trademark smile creeps me out).
Here he embodies Ron Kovic completly. From the all-American boy to devestated war-vet to activist. His star-power is used to make him the ultimate all-American, so it is truly a marvel when we see him as a real human being.
I never thought Tom Cruise in a wheelchair could be so effectivlly emasculating. Stone obviously has a lot to say about Vietnam and America, and here he paints a picture of how lost and confused our country was/is.
