Each great war movie was tackle a specific, different aspect of the war (The Deer Hunter-Emotional/Psychological, Apocalypse Now-Morality), and that's exactly what Born on the Fourth of July does. It tackles a new aspect that no other movie had brought up before which is verbal and physical abuse both in and after the war.
Although Oliver Stone emphasizes his point throughout the entire movie, Born on the Fourth of July is still a very powerful movie.
