Review of Born on the Fourth of July (1989) by Eugene G — 05 Aug 2008
Let me preface this by saying that I hate tom cruise, but I really hate oliver stone. I understand that this was an adaptation but the political stabs at conservatism and the efforts during the vietnam war was very unsettling to me.
I will give them this, if even half of what was portrayed in this film is true, then vietnam was truly the worst nightmare our armed forces have ever seen. however, I cannot believe cruise's character Kovic would join a parade while holding an upside down American flag and be proud.
the transformation from an American patriot to a washed up faithless disgruntled attention seeking liberal was what truly makes this film a four star feature.
