Review of Born into Brothels: Calcutta's Red Light Kids (2004) by Roger S — 07 Apr 2010
If you look for some information about this movie, among the amazing comment and credits, also you will find out the negative criticism. Called profit maker, "indophobic" or blamed to be an exploitation over the lives of the prostitutes on the red light district.
Different points of views. I have mine. Gifted youngsters that could have a chance for a different life as their mothers.
Among the scenes that really squeeze the heart and others that brings joy and hope, there's one in particular that caught me: when the film maker Zana Briski take them to see the ocean. The kids were happy and in that scene, wherever they speaking, it didn't have subtitle to translate that. And didn't need to.
