Review of Boogie Woogie (2010) by Thomas W — 30 Nov 2010
Ugh ... a rambling mess of a romp in the London art scene. This film, which has a pretty decent cast -- Danny Huston (Birth), Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls), Stellan Skarsgard (Angels & Demons), Christopher Lee (the Star Wars prequels), Alan Cumming (Circle of Friends), Gillian Anderson (The House of Mirth), Heather Graham (Boogie Nights), Charlotte Rampling (Swimming Pool) -- makes the already pretentious art scene even more so.
None of the characters are likable (apart from perhaps Seyfried) and they are all self-obsessed. It is ugly people surrounded by ugly art -- since most of the art is simply created just for this film (the title of the film comes from an actual piece by Dutch abstract artist Piet Mondriaan called "Victory Boogie-Woogie").
The characters are all hollow shells and you've seen them all before -- the most annoying being "the angry lesbian". Does the film want to be smart, artsy, funny, witty, cutesy or what? It is actually just a shameless piece of crap called a movie.
What were these people thinking?!?
