Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Ben E — 18 Oct 2010
There are many films I like, many films I think are great and many films I love. There are also many favorites. But this, I'm glad to say reaches that tip of the iceberg where 15 or so films stay afloat as my absolute favorites of all time.
Boogie Nights is an American classic. What's more American than Disco and Porn??? Paul Thomas Anderson does a fantastical job of directing this 70s/80s era flick and giving it huge dash of retro-ness.
It takes you back as soon as the first shot is finished, this is 2 hours and 30 minutes of entertainment you won't want to take back. The stories intertwining and colliding with each other, one of the best casts I've ever seen on film.
.. and surprising unexpectedness throughout the whole film. It's fresh, exciting and compelling work. I've laughed, I've cried and I've held the edge of my seat over the course of watching this film.
It's a classic and deserves much recognition.
