Review of Boogie Nights (1997) by Kelly S — 11 May 2012
What Paul Thomas Anderson has created is a brilliantly authentic film that successfully presents a very demystified portrait of the adult film industry and the sordid behavior of the figures who inhabit it.
The flow of the story works perfectly too. Arguably, some cinematically good films still lack the ability to draw the audience in with a realistic and well-written story, but "Boogie Nights" succeeds in this area too.
It may seem like a thoughtless, sensational porn movie, but it's actually a stark and disenchanting work of realism. The critical response is spot on. This is an American classic, and it's also Anderson's best picture to date.
