Review of Boogeyman (2012) by Jeremy S — 09 May 2010
This is the story of a man trying to recover from his phobia of closets (!) (and it's not about being gay) since some kind of evil spirit dwelling in what I assume could be appropriately called the universe of vortex-interconnected closets took his father when he was a child, and countless kids.
There are some mildly interesting parts (the ghosts, for instance), but overall it is rather weak. The slow rhythm feels like a cheap way to avoid special effects-related expenses, and it kills any attempt at being scary (it would have been great in a book for building tension, however), and the vague suggestions that the protagonist may be mentally ill are badly handled, thus the potential for ambiguity is completely lost to the usual surnatural stuff that explains everything.
