Review of Aquaman (2018) by Jeremy S — 02 Jan 2019
Pros: A lot of fun, It looks beautiful, solid story (if totally predictable) and I really like all the characters. Side note: it's the second (third?) movie in about a month in which I've seen both Nicole Kidman (Boy Erased) and Dolf Lundgren (Creed 2) and I'm loving it.
Cons: The dialogue is Saturday morning cartoon bad, too much exposition and there is a particular trope (gimmick?) that they utilize WAY more than they needed to.
Overall: Aquaman is goofy, but in all the right ways. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it's a lot of fun. Basically, take Thor and Wonder Woman, add some Indiana Jones, The Mummy (Brendan Fraser, not Tom Cruise), Pirates of the Caribbean and just a pinch of Pacific Rim and you have a pretty good idea of how Aquaman plays. I definitely suggest seeing it in the theater, but don't expect anything super serious.
Grade: B+.
