Slow, dark, and undeniably beautiful. Bone Tomahawk is a bit of an anti-western, as it revels in the tedium and grit of the old west. And when the switch does flip, it gets ugly quick - existentially terrifying in a way that is completely unexpected; not because it is so incredibly novel, but because you actually care about the characters by that point.
The slower pacing will turn a lot of viewers off, but the ones with the patience (and stomach) to stick it out will be richly rewarded.
