Review of Bone Tomahawk (2015) by Afm185 — 21 Jun 2020
There’s a decent chance that this is the actual most brutal movie I’ve ever seen. It is horrific. Although I wouldn’t quite call it one because it’s mostly suspense, it could easily qualify as a horror movie.
And yet it’s really really well done. The writing is pretty great throughout the whole movie, the story is simple but executed in a way that it’s still quite interesting. I really liked the characters in this especially, and the tension created as a result is nearly impeccable.
The last 30-40 minutes of the movie after a particular point is **** crazy. I’ll admit I got exactly (I mean, kinda) what I wanted in the ending I was just like oh please oh please just happen already.
I don’t want to spoil it though so we’ll just get to what else I liked. The music is noticeably good, heightening the scene every time it appears. The sounds (one in particular) are **** awesome. Aside from the dialogue in some scenes where it’s a bit hard to hear what they’re saying, it’s great stuff.
The movie also looks great, the practical effects are astounding, to a degree I almost regret that fact. But that’s just because of the brutality once again. The acting from every single character is really great, once again Kurt Russell’s got some of the best hair of any human being I’ve ever seen, and it was nice to see Matthew Fox in something else.
He also played a cool ass character so that’s a bonus for me. I’ll admit though, the movie isn’t perfect. While I wasn’t bored ever, it does drag for the first half or so. Thankfully the dialogue carries it through what would be monotonous otherwise, but still the events aren’t all that exciting or particularly interesting, but they are character enhancing.
Which is always a good thing. Despite its very long length, it does well with its time and I don’t think it could’ve benefitted from being cut down. I really enjoyed this one (enjoyed may be an odd term for it though frankly).
