Review of Bone Tomahawk (2015) by Moviescritic.net . — 23 Jul 2016
Bone Tomahawk is a slow tempo old school western that combines the atmosphere of Coen movies with Tarantino's black sense of humor and ends up like a Eli Roth (Hostel, The Green Inferno) movie with some surprising graphical horror elements of extreme violence.
Since it's plot includes cannibal Indians it's obviously not for everyone and probably not the best movie for a first date, but Craig Zahler's direction is on spot (and won him some independent awards), it's very well made in general (although a bit too long, 132 mins) and the actors performances are solid, especially Kurt Russell's. It has been criticized as highly amoralistic and nihilist but I would say it's more cynical and sincere. As The Revenant is a movie about trip in the wild to revenge, this one is a movie about a trip in the old west to rescue. As with the Revenant the only problem of the film is that although it's satisfying to watch it probably lacks some deeper meaning and will be forgotten after a while.
