Review of Bolt (2008) by Johnnyboy53 — 21 Jan 2023
Bolt is nothing short of a cinematic masterpiece. From the very first frame, the animation is stunningly realistic and the character designs are simply adorable. The story follows the titular character, Bolt, a super-powered dog who stars in a hit TV show, as he embarks on a journey to find his way back to his human companion, Penny. Along the way, he meets a motley crew of new friends, including a cat named Mittens and a hamster named Rhino, and together they embark on a wild adventure filled with laughter, tears, and heart-pounding action.
But what sets this film apart from the rest is the emotional depth and complexity of the characters. Bolt is a fully fleshed-out protagonist, with relatable wants and needs, and the supporting cast is equally well-written. The relationship between Bolt and Penny is especially poignant, and it's impossible not to root for them to be reunited.
The voice acting is top-notch, with John Travolta giving a career-defining performance as Bolt, and Miley Cyrus and Susie Essman rounding out the main cast. The score, by John Powell, is absolutely breathtaking and elevates the film to even greater heights.
In short, Bolt is a film that appeals to all ages and all types of audiences. It's a heartwarming, action-packed adventure that will have you laughing and crying in equal measure. It's a film that will stay with you long after the credits have rolled. This is a must-watch for anyone who appreciates great storytelling and animation. I give Bolt a solid 10/10.
