Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Claudie W — 22 Dec 2018
This was quite honestly better than I thought it would be, but I also convinced myself going in that I would view it as a Queen biopic masquerading as a Freddie Mercury biopic. Malek's performance was stellar.
Every move was Freddie. The problem were some of the liberties that writers took with Mercury's story-- most of them appeared to be written in to make straight audiences comfortable with his homosexuality (his parent's approval, his sudden, triumphant renunciation of his drug use and clubbing, etc.
) Generally, this struck me as the work of a bunch of old dudes who used to stick it to the man, but now they are the man, so they make a movie about their star so they can tour again with another cute twink.
.. Anyway. It was okay. Worth a watch.
