Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Zumbacino — 04 Apr 2019
Simplistic but highly enjoyable. The movie plays like a best off Queen’s greatest hits and achievements, which isn’t a bad thing. The music still has the power to sway any audience and Freddie’s commanding stage presence is excellently recreated by an outstanding performance by Rami Malek.
Freddie’s band mates are equally well portrayed, albeit a bit of the card board variety. Brian May is the other stand out, every detail and nuance of his mannerisms has been captured, one could easily be fooled he was the real person.
To me the biggest let down was the watered down story. It was competent but without any rough edges. Nothing that ruffles the feathers. It’s a tribute to Queen and a very entertaining one at that.
