Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Philip L — 13 Dec 2018
"Don't stop me now because I'm having a good time" so aptly applies to this rather enjoyable biopic. But really - what am I enjoying? It's certainly not the cliched script which is quite frankly a missed opportunity.
what I am enjoying is the recreations and the music which is Queen rather than a recreation. Malek is great as Mercury or rather great once the moustache is in place. For the first half he does a pretty impressive Mick Jagger! The guy who plays Brian May is so spot on you think it is him.
Other historical recreations though lack the attention to detail such as Freddie's friend Mary austin - the wardrobe and make up department fail to age or place the character in the 70s 80s so take her out of the film.
the less said about Bob Geldof the better. It's the struggle to have a hook for the films ending that fails the film the most. The title seems like an afterthought rather than a plan. It is a terrible film - yet it is hugely entertaining - but again what am I enjoying?
