Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Travis R — 16 Nov 2018
Captivating movie from start to finish. You watch the it expecting good things to happen as it moves ahead and sometimes they do. Rami Malek steals the show with excellent acting, which brought tears to my eyes several times.
However, it did lack a deeper story about his gayness and how he lived that part of his life. You see almost no development of his relationship with Jim or any other men, and I found this unfortunate.
At one point, he introduces Jim to his family as his "friend", and that is the end of it. Very odd. Comparing this movie to the movie "The Doors", I would say that Freddie's life almost seemed sugar-coated compared to Jim Morrison's with very little sex and a hidden gay life.
None of this ruined the movie for me, but I will say it was glaringly obvious they wanted to make the movie palatable for Grandma. Overall, though, I did think it was a very good movie.
