Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Yash B — 21 Nov 2018
All of the energy and entertainment that "Bohemian Rhapsody" has to offer is primarily due to two strengths. The first asset of the film is Rami Malek's outstanding portrayal of Freddie Mercury.
This performance should warrant multiple nominations come awards season. I really felt that Malek put a lot of hard work into the role and became the character. He portrays Mercury as flawed yet ultimately someone you can root for.
The second thing that makes the movie great is the usage of Queen's most iconic songs throughout the movie. I found myself enjoying every musical segment in the movie and it honestly made me wish I had a way to travel back in time just to witness one of Queen's shows.
Despite these two overwhelming great strengths, I do feel the movie does become a bit repetitive in its middle sections. I don't think this one gripe is enough for me to not recommend this movie because I had fun with it and got invested in the story.
It's a winning biopic that was criminally underrated by movie critics and deserves the theatrical experience due to a standout lead performance and the energizing use of some iconic music.
