Review of Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) by Nigel H — 04 Nov 2018
A thoroughly well put together bio-epic. The "critics" are slating this film for not being blood thirsty enough ie; revealing more about Freddie's darker wild side and the inconsistencies with the time line. It's a bloody film! A dramatization of real life events and not a documentary. Understand that and you will enjoy it. Having Freddie diagnosed with AIDS before the Live Aid concert (yes, it's 2yrs early) sets up the ending very well and allows the audience to leave on a high, rather than dragging out his death and having us all depressed at the end.
2hrs 15mins isn't long enough to cover a band of this magnitude, so for me they have done well to include the main high and low points whilst keeping the story moving.
As I have stated earlier, if you want a warts and all film about Queen and primarily Freddie Mercury then watch a documentary, there are many to pick from. However, if you want to be entertained about the group's humble beginnings to superstardom whilst touching on Freddie's vulnerability of wanting to be loved with a feel good factor at the end, then go and see this film.
Bohemian Rhapsody is a celebration of Queen whilst maintaining Freddie Mercury 's legacy.
