Review of Body of Lies (2008) by John M — 02 Aug 2010
Standard affair. It's a difficult movie to describe, because the whole movie you have only a vague idea on what's going on, and that's Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe combating terrorism, only DiCaprio is doing it from the field in the Mideast, and Crowe is doing it from thousands of miles away, back in America.
This type of movie rarely spikes my interest; middle-eastern espionages just aren't my thing and just have a feel about it that makes it hard for me, personally, to connect with. The action is all well and good, but the story is confusing, convoluted and difficult to follow.
It's just hard to care about these characters when it's so hard to figure out what's really going on. Don't get me wrong, Body of Lies has some good things about it; the always gorgeous cinematography that is present in all of Ridley Scott's movies is there, and there are some cool camera and editing tricks, but overall, it's just not that strong of a film.
