Review of Body of Lies (2008) by Hardy H — 05 Oct 2010
Overall I really enjoyed this film with its different take on the run of the mill action/spy thriller, alternating perspectives between the people on the ground and those providing direction, even when dropping off the kids at school.
DiCaprio displays a gripping tension between his tactical smarts with the understandable caution that goes with the precarious situations he finds himself in. Of course one always should be prepared to suspend disbelief with most Hollywood fare, but in this case the most unbelievable element of this film is when our hardened CIA agent lowers his guard (and tosses his brain out the window) to fall for a local nurse in his field of operation and persist in chasing her! The clash between the hardened operator and sensitive romantic mixes rather like oil and water, but nevertheless he somehow makes it all seem believable.
Probably my favorite DiCaprio movie, this coming from someone who's not really a fan.
