Review of Body of Lies (2008) by Jorge Eduardo S — 19 Mar 2013
"Trust No One. Deceive Everyone.".
"I and the public know..
What all all schoolchildren learn..
Those to who evil is done..
Do evil in return.".
A cunning, cerebral and downright crafty modern espionage thriller that's loaded with twists and turns for the duration. Body Of Lies is an engaging, surprising, action packed thrill machine that pumps out entertainment and adrenaline with ease. Director Ridley Scott (Alien, Bladerunner, Kingdom Of Heaven, Gladiator, American Gangster, Blackhawk Down) is back in full force doing what he does best. Body Of Lies is somewhat, in ways, a little similar to his brother Tony Scott's action packed, techno espionage thriller "Enemy Of The State". Body Of Lies is a pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline inducing, tough as nails film that really doesn't shy away from much, Ridley Scott and company deliver a solid story along with nerve wracking suspense. It's most definitely not his best film, far from it in fact, but with that being said Body Of Lies kept me engaged in a whirlwind of intrigue and deception the entire way through. A modern espionage thriller that has cemented itself a place amongst some the great spy films of our time. It's more of a thinking mans action thriller, and it is truly a blast. An intricate, deep, dark, brutal, disturbing and involving film that does not stop for anything.
Leonardo DiCaprio gives another sensationally convincing performance, I've come to expect nothing less from him. Russell Crowe teams up with Ridley Scott once again and gives a great performance as well. It's worth it to see Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in the same scene together... That right there makes this film well worth it.
