Review of Body Double (1984) by Joe F — 03 Nov 2009
Brian De Palma employs Hitchcock's patented "MacGuffins" as the soul device to keep his plot moving in a film where half the pleasure is in counting the ways the plot doesn't make sense.
De Palma doesn't seem to care that his plot is utterly ridiculous, he's having fun, and you know what? So are we. For him, this giddy little ouroboros of the movie business is a chance to throw an absurd, mind-bending plot at us while offering plenty of shots of Melanie Griffith's rear-end.
And if you're looking for a brilliant companion piece to this pokerfaced parody, try my pick for best film of 2002, Femme Fatale.
