Review of Bob Roberts (1992) by Patrick F — 19 Jul 2010
Tim Robbins goes way against type in this political mockumentary about a maverick, conservative, Pennsylvania senatorial candidate's unorthodox campaign; rife with live country music performances and talk-show plugs.
Intriguing political commentary that drags its premise out a lot longer than it should, but it's still rather entertaining to say the least. Robbins does wonderful Altman-esque work with the ensemble cast (get a load of Alan Rickman's Pennsyltucky accent!).
Compare 1992 to today's current political climate, and you'll probably think that not a whole lot's changed!
