Review of Bob le Flambeur (1956) by Michael W — 29 May 2009
Jean-Pierre Melville's portrait of an aging gambler is one of his finest films, as well as a massive influence on the French new wave and countless heist movies. A sharp script, skillful direction (the movie was shot on a low budget, but doesn't look like it) and Roger Duchesne's brilliant performance in the title role make this one a keeper.
