Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Arshi R — 17 Feb 2010
The subtext in this film is so startlingly powerful I sometimes think of it as an epic. There are moments in this piece of cinematic art that are actually transcendent. Undoubtedly Lynch's most watchable film and probably one of the few truly self-indulgent films that works on so many different levels.
There is enough weirdness and quirks in this movie to fill a video-store shelf. I put it at the top of my list because even though I've seen it many times I still find more to love each time.
