Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Zachary T — 06 Mar 2011
David Lynch's masterpiece that is by far the greatest film I've ever seen. I have never seen a film that made me have this feeling, that words can't describe. The film is about Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan), your typical all american boy, who finds a ear in a field.
He finds out about a women named Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), a nightclub singer, who may be connected to the case. He breaks into her house, & discovers that her husband & son have been kidnap by Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), a psychopathic sadist who constantly inhales Nitrous Oxide, who forces her to do whatever he wants.
Jeffrey & Veronica start pursuing a sexual relationship, but at the same time he is having a romantic relationship with Sandy Williams (Laura Dern), a detectives daughters, & your typical all american girl.
There isn't one thing wrong with this film, & I believe that it changed my life. There is this scene, that is now iconic, where Frank's friend Ben (Dean Stockwell) lip-syncs Roy Orbison's In Dreams.
But many have said this movie to be pornographic, which is bull. There is nothing pornographic about this film, Pornos are designed to arouse lust. Which this film does not do, if anything it is designed to subdue lust.
