Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Donald A — 16 Mar 2011
David Lynch's original first masterpiece about one kid's awakening to an underworld in his seemingly perfect town. Visually stunning and hard to look away from, each scene feels brand new unlike many films these days. Controversial, shocking, provocative, whatever you may call it; it is a work of art.
UPDATE: Just watched it yesterday to refresh my memory. It is still just as effective watching it now as it was when I first watched it. I like this film so much because it can be seen in so many different ways. As a newcomer, you may see the film just as a murder mystery. Delve into it deeper and you could uncover for example a lot of Freudian symbols. It is only how much you want to analyze it.
