Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Peter F — 12 Oct 2011
I have to admit it took me a few trys in order to truly appreciate Lynch's Blue Velvet. At first I was irked by the intentional plot-holes, but it's the ingenious mesh of the vague with the accessible that makes this film among the director's top three features.
Melding the aesthetics of European art films with a classical Hollywood backdrop (mainly adherent to film noir), Blue Velvet is an anomaly to this day and one that vastly improves with subsequent viewings.
What's more, we probably wouldn't have had Twin Peaks without it.
