Review of Blue Velvet (1986) by Darren P — 26 Sep 2012
David Lynch's first truly Lynchian film which paved way for Twin Peaks and other similiarly themed features. The trademarks are all there: small suburban setting, dark underworld behind the seemingly safe enviroment, sexual perversions and unforgettable weird characters.
Hopper digs deep in his own struggles with addiction to deliver a truly frightening nutball in Frank and MacLachlan and Dern are believanle as bue eyed youngsters dragged in to the seedy underworld. A somewhat aged film nowadays but in the 80's this must have truly shaken Hollywood during the Reagan-era blockbusters.
