Blue Velvet is a genre of film that climbs a tree to tell a story that is easily told on the ground. Yet, it is an outstanding piece. Not a cinematic wonder, this film could have been shot by a palm corder. Laura Dern is about as homely an actress as you will ever see in film today. The lead is terrific. Dennis Hopper is his usual crazy self.
Also, you had better like the song "Blue Velvet" by Bobby Vinton... you'll hear it once too often, along with other classics.
At some point I repeatedly thought... this is one sick movie.
Get this if you are into surreal situations. A bizzare film to say the least.
