Very few film-makers are able to mesmerize its audience with both hypnotic camera direction and multi-layered story premises. David Lynch is one of them.

Closely analyze the outskirts of the main plot in the small town mystery thriller. A young college student wants to find out more about a local apartment in a small North Carolina town. Sounds like a similar premise of children wanting to seek out a haunted mansion located above a steep hill. That is a story we all grew up knowing about. While the original premise is arguably familiar to the classic horror tales of haunted mansion mysteries, there is absolutely nothing that carries forward from that original premise to have any typical similarities to those pedantic haunted mansion horror stories. Leave it to David Lynch to give us a splendid tale of a compelling, but obsessive character portrait of the man who took it too far. Lynch fan's always expect to get such an odd overdose of mystifying intrigue, and there is no reason to say this doesn't meet the high demand of intriguing mystery. A film that has developed a very strong cult status over the years stands out to many as the David Lynch film that put him right on the map of a smartly crafted film-director.
