Review of Blue Valentine (2010) by Shimorinkumo H — 05 Jun 2013
For the first time in a while, we get a romance that isn't a comedy. "Blue Valentine" definitely brings out the blues in terms of the relationship between the main characters. It's hard to watch, but yet, it's more truthful about the pain, challenges, and risks that go into a marriage between a young married couple.
The sex scenes are rough, and it's understandable why the MPAA gave this one an NC-17 at first. But Derek Cianfrance and his two stars (Gosling and Williams are fantastic) make us believe in the portrayed relationship, and therefore, "Blue Valentine" works.
