What makes a marriage last? Why the magic dies off for some? When vows are made, don't they also cover "for better or for worse"? This movie is not a study of dysfunctional family but rather unfolds a version of marriage that does not work out.
Irregardless of their flaws, both husband and wife obviously have affection towards each other. Scenes of flashbacks remind us how compatible and in love they were. What happens happened. Disheartening as things may be, that's life.
Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are totally convincing with their tone perfect performance. What a talented couple.
