Review of Blue Like Jazz (2012) by Vanessa B — 24 Aug 2012
Although it very loosely followed to story to the novel, Blue Like Jazz (movie) seeks to purvey the same core message: God is not the sum of mistakes the Church has made. It borders glorifying a typical college life without much attempt to display regret. However, I feel that in many ways, its characterization of the college experience is apt for what is available to freshman embarking on the college 'self discovery' stage of their lives.
This movie is fun, the characters can be a bit flat but are charming nonetheless. If you've read the book, watch this with an open mind. If you haven't but are a Christian, attempt to view this movie with yourself as the protagonist. If you are a non-christian, watch it and understand the emphasis intended for the ending.
