Review of Blue Jay (2016) by Angela R — 17 Nov 2018
This movie follows two struggling former best friends (and lovers) as they get reacquainted and reminisce over a 24 hour period. There is a easy chemistry between Paulson and Duplass and, until the last arc, the dialogue (and dynamic) between the pair feels completely unscripted. I would have given the movie 5 stars if it wasn't for the last arc. A simple but rich and refreshing movie takes a melodramatic turn with "the reveal".
It's lovely to see Paulson in a role so different from many of her AHS characters and traumas. She absolutely shines, per usual. The last arc of the film does no favors for Duplass but, until that point, he brings a charming presence to the screen.
