Cate Blanchett plays Jasmine a New York housewife that has a mental breakdown following a mid-life crisis involving her crooked husband (Alec Baldwin) being arrested and tried for illegal practices. She moves to San Francisco with her sister Ginger (Sally Hawkins) who doesn't love as lavishly as her sister.

Both women although from different places, have eerily similar lives, living and accepting things and settling into relationships even when it appears it's a bad idea. The movie is a typical Woody Allen film, not saying that's bad! It features really well written dialogue and have some great moments for the characters.

Blanchett is a knock out and really deserves her Oscar nod as does Hawkins. The movie ends on a bit of a open note meaning you can interpret the film in a number of ways. Overall, for any Woody Allen fans, or for any drama fans definitely give it a look!
