Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Tam V — 12 May 2014
@Blue Jasmine: A.D.-Approve!
Directed by Wood Allen, the film has been compared to Tennessee Williams' play "A Streetcar Named Desire". Blue Jasmine is about a New York socialite looking to start over in San Francisco after her husband gets arrested for investment fraud.
Blue Jasmine is a leisurely stroll along the pier in the summertime. The film moves effortlessly by, bathed in golden sunlight. After the walk you get mugged by a hobo. That hobo is Kate Blanchette's enthralling performance. Her fall from grace is captivating to witness as her character becomes unhinged. From a shallow elitist to schizophrenic tragic hero, you want to hate her, but you feel for her. Absolutely worthy of the Oscar. This is acting! Real acting. Unflinching, bewildering, believable acting. See it for her.
