Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Raji K — 05 Jun 2014
Cate Blanchett stars in Blue Jasmine which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress. This was well deserved because her performance was spectacular. She was unpredictable, full of anxiety, and self centered in such a way I felt like I needed to take a Xanax myself after watching this film.
She starts off as a woman who is married to a crooked wealthy business played by Alec Baldwin. Although she is aware of his crookedness she turns the other way to live the high life, and is naive and trust worthy of him in all other regards.
After this catches up to him, she loses the life, has a nervous breakdown and she finds herself living in San Francisco with her adopted sister who was also a victim of her husbands deeds. Judgmental and harsh she criticizes her sister when she is a hypocrite and has many issues of her own.
Blue Jasmine is really a movie about relationships and how we deal with our problems. Cate Blanchett drives this movie and her performance makes it worth watching.
