Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Sandy K — 04 Jul 2014

The story of a wealthy socialite failing to adapt to her sudden reversal of fortune would only be somewhat interesting in this Woody Allen film if it weren't for Cate Blanchett's powerhouse performance as the narcissistic Jasmine, unraveling before our eyes.

The romantic travails of her sister and Jasmine's doomed whirlwind romance with a wannabe politician felt a bit contrived (and overly cynical), and the "twist" at the end was anticlimactic.

But it's well worth watching just to watch Blanchett at work.
