Blue Jasmine is one of Woody Allen's best movies in my opinion. It stars Cate Blanchett as Jasmine and when we first meet her she's on plane bound for San Francisco because she has to stay with her half sister who is played by Sally Hawkins because she lost everything she had when her husband Hal played by Alec Baldwin was arrested for fraud.

We get flashbacks right at the start of the husband and how great things were until it all came crashing down. Cate Blanchett makes this character her own. Jasmine at some points can be civilized but there are those moments when the anxiety becomes too much aand that's where the true power of the movie lies whether or not this woman can put her life back together after this unbelievable tragedy and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen for a second.

There is small doses of humor put in for good measure but this is totally a tragedy in the deepest ways and this movie stayed with me after a while and I haven't been able to forget it. This is a really great movie.
