Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Mloy X — 19 Jun 2015

Jasmine (Cate Blanchett): Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown, there's only so many traumas a person can withstand until they take to the streets and start screaming.

Like most Woody Allen films, it's interesting with a side of quirky but for some reason I thought it was going to be a bit funnier-- not, funny "ha-ha" but more in the ironic kind of way that most of his films are funny. This was a bit more depressing than I had expected but I do like the plot twist in the story. All the characters are pretty loathsome and quite pathetic and the funny thing about this film (in ironic sense) is that Alec Baldwin's character, Hal, who was portrayed pretty much as the villain in the film and the root of all the film's trouble, was actually the most likable character. Overall, the film is as good as any of Allen's films, maybe not the most memorable, uplifting or profound, but it was entertaining enough (although depressing as f*ck).
