Review of Blue Jasmine (2013) by Butch B — 14 Feb 2014
Supposedly a study of the corrupting influence of money, the real agenda is Woody's 40 year programme to convince us that women are never more than facile, dependent appendages of men. Attach these qualities to a failed socialite and bingo: instead of misogyny hell one obtains left-liberal heaven.
Stunning, the number of paid critics who failed to notice. Neither did left-liberal Blanchett notice. She attaches herself in thrall as an appendage of Woody's thesis, thus demonstrating it. Good performance though? Really? Could even a messed up socialite be that unaware of herself? It's a caricature.
