Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by Pj P — 07 Mar 2014
Forget the controversy. Forget everything. Go and see Blue Is the Warmest Colour (better named in French 'La Vie d'Adele - Chapitres 1 & 2'). I could not believe that three hours had passed when it ended: I could hardly believe that half that time had passed, and I think everyone in the cinema felt the same.
This is an utterly compelling film with heartbreakingly brilliant acting: a completely deserving winner of the 2013 Palme D'Or; a unanimous decision. In an unprecedented move the jury and its president, Steven Spielberg, shared the award between director Abdellatif Kechiche and the two young actresses in the lead roles, Lea Seydoux and Adèle Exarchopoulos.
Watch it and you'll easily understand why. If you see a movie with a better performance than that of Exarchopoulos, come and grab me by the ear and drag me too see it. I doubt if I'll be seeing you.
