Review of Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013) by John C — 03 Aug 2017
I don't feel like it really did much different from any other coming-of-age type story we've seen before.
The worst thing about a 3-hour movie is when it *feels* like a 3-hour movie. Sure, the acting from the two lead actresses can be absolutely phenomenal in some scenes (the breakup and the restaurant reunion come to mind), but I felt like this movie could've been cut quite a bit. The overlong sex scenes eventually become incredibly awkward and, yes, laughable. Now I see what those at the first screenings were talking about.
The ending though is rather satisfying. It isn't happy and fake, but realistic. I appreciated that much.
Overall, the movie was alright. I think the rave reviews is what made me have very high expectations in the first place but... you really only stick around for the acting.
And I really prayed that they would stop showing scenes of Adele eating. Close your mouth! It didn't help the camera was all up in her face, too. *shudder*.
