Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Rich M — 08 Aug 2009
Influential paranoid thriller that I appreciate more than full-on love it. Perhaps it's that i'm more familiar with Blow Out, the Brian DePalma homage/rip-off staring John Travolta. Still, it has some great camera work and is (interestingly) relatively low on dialogue: As the scholar on the commentary points out, a good deal of the movie concerns the unnamed main character simply looking at things and examining them over and over, in absurd detail.
The best part for me was seeing the "swinging" Mod London of the 60's captured as it was (or the closest proximity), rather than though the over-the-top parody of say, Austin Powers. I will say that if you have an aversion to Mimes, maybe you should skip out before the last ten or so minutes.
