Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Anna H — 06 Oct 2009
Has a very slow pace upfront for a 'taut thriller' but this movie is worth it. There is a wonderfully '60s English Mod feel to the film's style and I like how it looks -- I bet this is a fun one on the big screen.
The extended sequences in the park are classic cinema -- it's impressive to watch how much story happens without a single word of dialogue -- and the way Antonioni plays around with images and hallucinations, appearances and realities, is a perfect subtext for a movie about what happens when a photographer enlarges a photograph and sees something he didn't know he was photographing: a dead body.
