Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Lohita P — 19 Dec 2009
Ultimately I have to say this film isn't my cup of tea. The lack of dialogue, seemingly strange plot, and the swinging culture of the 60's that is quite foreign to me made for a film that was hard for me to both understand and adapt to.
However I would wrong to dismiss this film altogether it certainly asks alot of the audience. We are invited to ask questions about both reality and meaning. The photographer in this movie comes to life, if you will, once he accidentally photgraphs the death of a middle aged man.
The movie never fully explains the death and really is a secondary consideration in the movie as a whole. The movie's main focus is the photographer who is quite mean and self serving, but his accidental photograph changes him - once he finds something to do that he considers worthwhile he is never quite the same.
Blowup is both interesting and boring at the same time. It is definetely not for everyone.
