Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Jason R — 12 Aug 2010
Didnt do much for me. Regardless of the fact that Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page both make a cameo at the dance scene, and the fact that this is perenially held as among the best-made films, I only marginally enjoyed it.
I get the appeal; it is well shot and it seems to capture a certain attitude and style of the 60's. And the first photograph scene, where the David Hemmings character is shooting a model, has a palpable sexuality that honestly sneaks up on the viewer, and is likely one of the best shot scenes in how its very evocative without being pornographic.
The rest of the film however tends to drag for me at several moments. The films central story is about a murder mystery, and I dont recall too many thrilling moments or really tense ones in regards to that.
Im glad I watched the film for influential and historical purposes, but not one im terribly interested in revisiting.
